Singapore Management University

This class introduces students to the practical use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic AI systems for addressing real-world sustainability challenges. You will explore how AI is increasingly used in sustainability reporting and risk disclosure. Through guided demonstrations, we will estimate CO₂ emissions using both manual and AI-assisted approaches. Moving beyond compliance-driven disclosure, the class also frames sustainability management as a strategic business edge that helps firms reduce costs, strengthen supply-chain visibility, and differentiate products.

Crucially, you will also learn about AI’s own footprint. Responsible use of AI entails understanding the energy, water, and social impacts associated with the embodied and operational demands of data centers. Dive into the intersection of planetary boundaries, human flourishing, and responsible innovation.
